A study looks at the rate of self-managed abortion since Roe v. Wade fell. The study found that the use of mifepristone to self-manage abortion has nearly doubled from 6.6% in 2021 to 11.0% in 2023.

The Black Skimmer and its unique role as an Avian Fisherman
The Black Skimmer is a very unusual shorebird – in part because of its exceptionally long, knife-like lower bill and much shorter, slightly-curved upper bill. The knife-like lower bill is for slicing through calm surface waters near shore and in shallow ponds and lakes to capture fishes. When the lower bill strikes a small fish, the fish slides up the bill and the upper bill clamps down on it.

Catholic-Jewish Dialogue of Collier County to hold annual Kristallnacht Commemoration
This Sunday, Nov. 5 the group is holding its annual Kristallnacht Commemoration. Kristallnacht was a violent and coordinated anti-Semitic attack in Nazi Germany and Austria in November of 1938. It’s considered a precursor to the Holocaust. It will feature a talk titled “Theologies of the Other: Catholics and Jews After the Holocaust” from Rabbi David Maayan. We talk with him an a member of the Catholic-Jewish Dialogue of Collier County.

How St. Matthew's House in Naples is navigating the growing issue of senior homelessness in Collier County
On one day every January, a Point-in-Time — or PIT — Count is conducted in counties to document the number of people who are experiencing homelessness on a single night. The PIT Count in Collier County this past January found a 230% increase in the number of people over the age of 60 who were homeless as compared to the previous year. So, we check in with the CEO of St. Matthew’s House in Naples, to get a sense of what they’re facing.
