After Eight Months, No Word on Next Lieutenant Governor

Governor Rick Scott gave little sign on Tuesday about how his search for a lieutenant governor is going. The state is marking eight months with a vacancy in that position.

Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll stepped down in mid-March after law-enforcement officials raided Internet cafes statewide. Carroll had done consulting work for Allied Veterans of the World, a key target of the investigation, but was never charged in the case.

Today, Scott remained vague when asked about filling the position.

"I’m still reviewing it", Scott  said. "There are a lot of great people around the state that could be great at lieutenant governor, so we’re still going through the process."

Florida law says a lieutenant governor should be in place, but gives no deadline. If Scott were unable to fulfill his duties before a lieutenant governor is named, Attorney General Pam Bondi would take over as governor.
