Despite Outcry From Seniors, FL Passes Internet Cafe Ban

mikecogh via Flickr

It's a sad day for a lot of senior citizens -- both houses of the Legislature have passed the Internet café ban -- and senior arcades have been lumped in with the anti-gaming bill.

Seniors and arcade owners had even gone to Tallahassee to argue that these were games of skill and not games of chance, but even more importantly than that -- that this strip mall arcades were basically their only places to socialize during the day.
Adam Garson, the owner of Players Arcade in Boynton Beach, says his regulars have been coming to him in tears.

Governor Rick Scott has said he will carefully look at the bill once he gets it before deciding whether to sign this into law.

The situation with video arcades became a hot-button issue after a major raid that ultimately cost Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll her job.
