State senator Jeff Clemens Wednesday filed a bill he says will eliminate much of the controversy over voter registration.
The Lake Worth Democrat wants to register eligible Floridians automatically.
"It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense if folks have to go through a whole extra step just to register to vote", said Clemens. "We should automatically register them to vote, and then it's their decision whether they want to partake or not."
Senate Bill 234 would require the state to register voters when they come of age via the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Clemens says automatic registration would save county election supervisors the need to verify registrations, run voting drives, or oversee third-party registration groups.
