Senate Garage Repairs 'North' Of $20 Million

Downtown Tallahassee can be sleepy in the dog days of summer, but this year, workers are conducting a major construction project at the Capitol complex.

Department of Management Services spokeswoman Maggie Mickler says a report earlier this year found extensive water damage in the Senate garage.

“It was a combination of two things. It was the failed waterproofing system, which was more than 40 years old and the weight of the soil and the landscaping on top of the Senate garage.”

Mickler says it will cost "north of $20 million," and take two years. Meanwhile, 210 parking spaces will be temporarily reassigned.

However, Mickler says Florida’s 40 senators will be able to park in the Capitol parking garage when session is in.
