Hillary Clinton was in Naples Tuesday. The former U.S. Secretary of State was on a speaking circuit that included another paid private event last week.
While the event was billed as non-political, Clinton supporters said they hoped the speaking tour meant she might be positioning herself for another White House run. Clinton lost the democratic nomination to President Barack Obama in 2008.
More than a dozen people rallied in support of Clinton ahead of her speech at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in Naples.
Kay Wilson from Naples said even though they didn’t get to see her speak, they still wanted to show their support.
“I think she needs to see that we support her and she’s the best candidate and it’s time for a woman to be president,” Wilson said. “We need to take a turn.”
Barbara Defrances, who was also standing along the side of the road on a hot day, agreed.
“We want her to know that there are people from all walks of life that support her and want her to run,” Defrances said.
Dan Kinney drove from Miami to take part in the event. He said he’s not sure her speaking tour signals she’s considering another run, but he thinks supporters could make a difference.
“I think the more she sees this repeatedly, it will encourage her to run,” he said.
Clinton has said in recent media appearances that she has no plans to pursue elected office.
