House to Revoke International Driving Permit

Florida lawmakers are set to undo a burden on Canadian visitors. The Legislature voted last year to require foreign visitors to get an international driving permit before getting behind the wheel in Florida.

The idea was to help police, who may not be able to decipher information on the license plates of international visitors because they're sometimes in other languages.
But the three million Canadian visitors who are welcomed with open arms each year in South Florida were caught off guard by the new requirement. Now officials statewide say they’re worried Canadians may not visit as much.

So the full House on Tuesday is expected to take up a bill to abolish the international driver permit requirement. It would still need Senate approval.
