Kathy Hepinstall’s debut novel “The House of Gentle Men,” was shortlisted for a Penn Faulkner West award and ended up at the number one spot on the L.A. Times books list. Though she was raised and educated in Texas, she headed all the way east to Sanibel Island to write her latest book, “Blue Asylum,” a poignant historical romance set during the Civil War period and reviewed now by Sally Bissell.
