Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson has resigned from the FGCU Alumni Association board of directors.

His resignation was as of Sept. 17 and confirmed Thursday by Pamela McCabe, director of University Communications & Media Relations, Office of the President.

Anderson's term on the alumni board started July 1, 2025.

Anderson has also resigned from the board of Valerie's House, a local organization dedicated to ongoing grief support for children. A page for the organization's board of directors listed as "Meet Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson" goes to "Page Not Found" when selected.

A organization spokesperson confirmed Thursday that Mayor Anderson voluntarily resigned from the Board of Directors as of Friday, September 19.

Anderson, a 2003 graduate of FGCU with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, has been the focus of allegations of sexual impropriety.

That story was fueled this past Monday at the Fort Myers City Council meeting, when two young men accused him of soliciting them.

Dominic Hendricks, 18, and Kagan Vann, 23, spoke during public comments at the meeting, alleging Anderson befriended them and eventually asked them intimate questions about their sex lives before propositioning them.

The allegations first surfaced when reporter Bob Norman of the independent online media outlet SW Florida Lighthouse published them on Substack earlier this month.

Vann, a local actor, said he trusted Anderson, painting the picture of a mentoring relationship.

"I trusted you as a friend. As someone who helped me not only with acting, but kind of motivated me to keep moving forward. On November 21st, 2024, you betrayed my trust. You propositioned me for sex," Vann said.

Norman's SW Florida Lighthouse Substack also recently published a report on another person's accusation that the Anderson had paid him unwanted attention when they both worked at Chico's FAS Fort Myers headquarters in 2020.

Fort Myers City Manager Marty K. Lawing has tendered his retirement, effective December 9th.

City officials confirmed the retirement Thursday.

A release from a city spokesperson said that Lawing, after more than 43 years in local government management, including the past five years serving the City of Fort Myers, wanted to focus on personal and family priorities.

Lawing will continue serving as city manager and remain focused on the city’s priorities and ongoing initiatives until his retirement.

The release also said that the City of Fort Myers is in a strong financial position, with several transformational projects underway and on the horizon. Lawing remains confident in the City Council, leadership team, and staff and their ability to keep the city on its positive trajectory. Next steps related to the transition will be determined by the Fort Myers City Council.

Lawing began his tenure as city manager with the City of Fort Myers on June 7, 2021. He spent his entire career in local government management including managing the municipalities of Bishopville, Bennettsville and Conway in South Carolina.

His other professional local government management experience includes twenty years in county government in the state of North Carolina serving twelve years as county manager in Brunswick County and most recently serving as county manager in Guilford County.

Marty earned a Master of Political Science / Public Management and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He is a member of the International City Management Association and the Florida City/County Management Association.
