German Catholics' Path To Heaven Comes With Taxes
German Catholics are facing a stark choice: Pay a church tax or forget about receiving the sacraments, including baptisms, weddings and funerals. Germany taxes registered Catholics, Protestants and Jews. In 2011, the tax raised $6.5 billion for the Catholic Church alone. Ebbers Sentenced to 25 Years for Fraud
Bernard Ebbers, the former CEO of Worldcom, is sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in what authorities call the largest accounting fraud in U.S. history. Ebbers, 63, was found guilty on charges of securities and reporting fraud. He is expected to appeal.

Boar's Head expands recall of ready-to-eat deli products; additional 7 million pounds listed
Boar's Head is adding an approximately 7 million additional pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products to an ongoing deli meats recall.The a Jarratt, Va., provisions establishment announced Tuesday that it was expanding its July 26, 2024, recall of deli meat products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. As of July 30, 2024, 34 sick people have been identified in 13 states, including 33 hospitalizations and two deaths. Samples were collected from sick people from May 29, 2024, to July 12, 2024.
