The first in a wave of United Nations relief ‘planes arrived in Myanmar yesterday following last Saturday’s cyclone. Meanwhile in Fort Myers, a Christian based missionary group is doing what it can on the ground and from Southwest Florida to help the victims. WGCU’s Matthew Kay reports

This Saturday letter carriers across the country will collect donations of nonperishable food items from homes and deliver them to food banks. Last year the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected more than 375 thousand pounds in Lee County alone. This year organizations that help struggling families are counting on the drive to stock food pantries struggling to keep up with increasing demand. WGCU’s Valerie Alker prepared this report.

The first batch of Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test scores were released Thursday. The overall performance for fourth, eighth and tenth graders in the writing portion remained relatively the same as last year. Charlotte County is one of those enjoying continued success.
