December 7th, 1941 marks a day President Franklin Roosevelt called “a date that will live in infamy.” Within an hour of that speech Congress approved a declaration of war that officially brought the U.S. into World War II. As today marks 70 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, we’ll talk with men and women in Southwest Florida who served our country in World War II.

Southwest Florida has lost an icon in environmental advocacy with the recent passing of Ellen Peterson.  Friends and colleagues describe Ellen as a warrior; someone who cared deeply about preserving the beauty of our region.  She fought for the integrity of Southwest Florida’s natural spaces through her work with the Agency for Bay Management, the Environmental Confederation of Southwest Florida, Save Our Creeks, the Responsible Growth Management Coalition, the Everglades Committee and severed as founding director of the Sierra Club’s Calusa Group.  Peterson’s efforts are responsible for saving Fisheating Creek and she fought and won a battle to keep a coal-fired power plant for going into Glades County.  She also created the Happehatchee Eco-Spirituality Center which remains open to the community.  Join our show as we explore the impact of Peterson’s life and the legacy she leaves behind.
