Amendments Thrown Off November Ballot

Florida educators are celebrating the Florida Supreme Court’s decision to throw off amendments 5, 7 and 9 off the November ballot. Florida Education Association President Andy Ford released a statement just minutes after decision - calling the ruling a victory for everyone in the state. James Call reports.

Amendment 5

The Florida Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Amendment 5 dispute on Sept. 3rd. As James Call reports, earlier this month, a circuit court judge ordered the so-called tax swap amendment off the November ballot, saying it was misleading on several fronts.

Fay’s Impact on Nursing Homes

Teams of Florida investigators have been sent to seven Florida counties to check on residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the wake of tropical storm Faye. As James Call reports officers will visit almost 700 facilities from Daytona Beach to the Keys.

Mortgage Broker Rules Changed

Criminals won't be able to work in Florida's mortgage industry under emergency rules adopted yesterday by Gov. Charlie Crist and the Cabinet. As James Call reports, the new regulations are a response to recent media reports that Florida licensed thousands of mortgage brokers with criminal backgrounds.

A group of Barack Obama supporters met over the weekend in Tallahassee to discuss ideas to be forwarded to the presumptive Democratic nominee’s campaign.
