Florida's Prepaid in 20th Year

Florida’s prepaid college tuition program is in its 20th year…and as Lynn Hatter reports, despite the current financial turmoil the program is running a surplus.

The search is on for a new university system Chancellor. The Florida Board of Governor’s held its first search committee meeting Monday to start looking for a replacement. In the meantime a person is already being considered to serve as a temporary stand-in. Lynn Hatter reports.

The community organizing group that’s been in the news lately because of voter registration fraud concerns is warning Floridians not to be victims of what’s called foreclosure voting fraud. Tax Break

Anyone buying a home in Florida pays what’s called the doc stamp tax. The high number of short-sales and foreclosures is raising concerns over who pays the tax and how much is paid out. But as Lynn Hatter reports, the Department of Revenue is offering a tax break in those situations.

Modifying Home Loans

As part of a lawsuit with eleven states including Florida, Countrywide will begin modifying sub-prime mortgages. As Lynn Hatter reports, Countrywide will begin granting some relief to some homeowners to try to keep them out of foreclosure.
