Mosaic Mining Company Appeals Injunction

Phosphate mining company, Mosaic, is appealing a court issued injunction against portions of its Hardee County mining operation.  The mine would impact wetlands next to the Peace River.  WGCU’s John Davis has more.

Science & Math Initiative

The Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice is funding an education initiative for middle and high school students aimed at helping kids meet rigorous new standards set by the state and that officials say could transform southwest Florida into the next Silicon valley.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Despite some legislators attempts, immigration reform won’t be on  the agenda for this week’s special session of the Florida legislature.  But passage of Arizona’s controversial immigration law has prompted mixed reaction from Florida lawmakers and political candidates.  While some accuse the law of being discriminatory, others are pushing for a similar policy in Florida.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Gulf Oil Claims Workshop

Foreclosure Workshop

According to the latest numbers from Realty Trac, foreclosure activity is leveling off throughout the country, but Florida’s foreclosure rate is still high, ranking third in the nation.  The department of financial services is holding a workshop in Immokalee Saturday to get homeowners talking to lenders about avoiding foreclosure.  WGCU’s John Davis has more.
