Power Plant Manatees

Cold water temperatures have drawn hundreds of manatees to the warm wateroutflow at the Florida Power and Light Plant on the Orange River in Lee
County.  And hundreds of people have turned out to the see them.  Valerie Alker reports.

Cold Snap Benefits

Cold Stunned Sea Turtles

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission biologists coordinated the rescue of more than 250 cold stunned sea turtles and one cold stressed manatee this week. WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Bald Eagles in Sarasota

Bald Eagles are showing up in some strange places in Sarasota County. The federally protected birds usually stick to rural areas, but an auto accident this week re-enforced a tough decision that wildlife officials made to move some eagle eggs. Mia McCormick explains.

Sea Turtle Nesting Season Ends

Sea Turtle nesting season is now over for 2010. As the late night and dawn beach monitoring work ends, sea turtle biologists and environmental specialists are beginning to log and interpret their data. And despite alarming decreases in the number of nests over the past decade, preliminary numbers show a significant increase this year in the number of nests state-wide. WGCU’s John Davis reports.
