Water Quality/Treatment Area East of Labelle

The South Florida Water Management District has finalized a deal to buy about 17-hundred acres of orange groves east of Labelle to create a water treatment and testing facility. It’s the first project approved under the new Northern Everglades and Estuaries Program, signed into law by Governor Charlie Crist earlier this year. WGCU’s Mike Kiniry reports.

Red Tide Prediction Center at USF

Effects of the Ongoing Drought

Water Wars

There could soon be less water flowing into Florida’s rivers - as federal officials lean towards letting Georgia keep more water in its reservoirs to cope with a record-setting drought. But the governors of Georgia, Florida, and Alabama will be responsible for working out a long-term solution to their deepening dispute over water resources. Judith Smelser reports.

Rain Barrels in Charlotte County

Rain barrels are popping up in yards across Charlotte County. Their purpose is to conserve water and help lower water bills. The 55 gallon barrels are available for a nominal fee from the Charlotte County Extension Service. WGCU's Andrea McCrary reports.
