Dike Rehabilitation Project Continues

Engineers are about halfway done installing a 500-foot test section of the Herbert Hoover Dike around Lake Okeechobee – with a construction technique never before used in the U-S. Repairs are underway after inspectors concluded parts of the aging 140-mile long structure need to be upgraded or it could pose a grave and imminent danger to those living near it. WGCU's Mike Kiniry spoke to Mike Rogalski, the Herbert Hoover Dike project manager for the U-S Army Corps of Engineers in the Jacksonville District to learn more about the process, and the overall project…

Drought Mitigation Funding Approved

Preparing for New Water Use Restrictions

Starting next week homeowners in southwest Florida face tougher water restrictions due to the severe drought. Water management officials want to make sure everyone is in compliance. So this week they’re holding special courses to train enforcement officials. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports.

Golden Gate Weir Number Two

Water management officials believe they are one step closer to returning water flows through Collier County back to a more natural state.
