Coral Study

The National Marine Fisheries Service is looking into the health of 82 coral species, including several found in Florida, to determine if they should be extended protection under the Endangered Species Act. WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Infant Language Study

Researchers at Florida Gulf Coast University are exploring how babies born prematurely learn language, as compared to full term infants. The three year study is funded by the March of Dimes. WGCU’s Mike Kiniry has more.

Lee County Biofuel Contract

Lee County Commissioners approved a contract Tuesday to give 10 million dollars to a biofuel company to relocate to the County and build a new research laboratory.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Botanical Garden Reopens

Bee Experiment

A class of Florida Gulf Coast University students is conducting a series of outdoor experiments later this morning at the Bonita Springs Nature Place…they’ll be trying to determine whether honey bees can count, and what exactly they see when buzzing past a bright RED flower. Assistant professor of animal behavior at FGCU Billy Gunnels spoke with WGCU’s Mike Kiniry about the experiment.
