State Senators Mike Bennett and Dave Aronberg - both of whose districts include parts of southwest Florida - were on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University yesterday. The spoke to WGCU's Valerie Alker about the role of a property tax cut in bolstering the state's sagging economy.

Floridians for Smarter Growth's Carole Green

A group called Florida Hometown Democracy is collecting signatures in hopes of getting an amendment to the state constitution on the November, 2008 ballot that would change how city and county comprehensive plans would be amended. The idea has gotten plenty of attention…and drawn stiff opposition from those who say it would hurt the state’s economy.


Yesterday WGCU's Mike Kiniry spoke with that group’s president - Palm Beach attorney Leslie Blackner. Today he chats with former state lawmaker Carole Green, who now chairs the Lee & Collier initiative for Floridians for Smarter Growth, that’s the main group opposing the amendment. She says while she understands the need to better manage growth…this amendment is not the solution.

Matt Hudson Sworn In

Voters in Eastern Collier and Western Broward County have a new representative in Tallahassee. Republican Matt Hudson was sworn in Tuesday in Collier County as the new state representative for House District 101. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports.

District 101 Election

Voters in Florida House District 101 go to the polls Tuesday to elect a lawmaker to replace Republican State Representative Mike Davis who died in September. District 101 includes Eastern Collier and Western Broward Counties. The candidates are Democrat Linda McDonald and Republican Matt Hudson. WGCU’s Mike Kiniry reports.
