New Child Abuse Unit in Lee County

2008 Drug House Odyssey

Simply talking to teens about the dangers of mixing alcohol and/or drugs and driving is sometimes not enough to get the point across. The folks at the Coalition for a Drug Free Southwest Florida think they have to take it a step further. Hence what’s called “The Drug House Odyssey.” WGCU’s Luis Hernandez has more.

A Conversation with Nola Theiss

Nola Thiess is back from a trip to the “U-N Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking Conference” in Vienna, Austria. Thiess is the Executive Director of the Human Trafficking Awareness Partnership. She’s also heading up the local Esperanza Project which brings Florida Gulf Coast University and Lee County law enforcement together to fight the growing problem of human trafficking in southwest Florida. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez talked with Thiess about her trip and some of the newest information on the fight against human trafficking.

LCSO's New Mobile Command Unit

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office unveiled its new high-tech mobile command center Thursday. The 1-million dollar vehicle holds up to two dozen people – and provides mobile Internet, television and radio communications. WGCU’s Mike Kiniry reports.
