CIW Publix Rally

Members of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida will hold a rally in front of a Publix store in Lakeland on Sunday to protest what they say are poor wages and working conditions faced by farmworkers. WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Human Trafficking Task Force

Members
of Florida’s statewide taskforce on human trafficking will meet for the
first time this week in Miami to evaluate the scope of the problem, and
implement a plan to better identify victims and prosecute offenders.

Deportation Reform Measure Pushed in Congress

Immigration Enforcement Training - Feature.

More than two dozen Collier County Sheriff’s Deputies are going back to the classroom for new training. It’s part of a first of its kind relationship between a Sheriff’s office in Florida and the federal government to try to curb illegal immigration. As WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports nationally, the program has identified more than 22,000 illegal aliens for possible deportation over the last two years.
