Kite Surfer’s Brush With Fay

A South Florida kite-surfer will have to watch the newest "video seen ‘round the world" in order to witness his own harrowing brush with death while taking advantage of Tropical Storm Kay's approach last week. Doug Phillip reports:

For a fourth weary day Tropical Storm Fay continues its soggy march through Florida. As Trimmel Gomes reports, a tropical storm warning remains in effect for northern Florida and south Georgia.

Fay’s Impact on Nursing Homes

Teams of Florida investigators have been sent to seven Florida counties to check on residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the wake of tropical storm Faye. As James Call reports officers will visit almost 700 facilities from Daytona Beach to the Keys.

Increased Tornado Threat All Day Today

Tropical Storm Fay is expected to continue to spawn tornado warnings across Florida today. South Florida is under a tornado watch until 4 this afternoon. WGCU’s Amy Tardif reports.

Taking Storms Seriously

Although Tropical Storm Fay did not strengthen into the hurricane it was forecast to become, Florida Governor Charlie Crist is adamant people should still take the storm seriously today as it moves through the Peninsula. Amy Tardif has more.

Fay - Power Outages as of 8:00 a.m.

Florida Power and Light reports more than 20,000 Collier County residents are currently without electricity. Lee County Electric Cooperative says 8000 Marco Island and 3500 Lehigh Acres customers are without power. WGCU’s Amy Tardif reports.

Fay’s Impact on the Keys

Tropical Storm Fay is expected to arrive in the Florida Keys Monday afternoon or evening. There’s a mandatory visitor evacuation in place in the Keys, and shelters are open. And public schools there are closed Monday and Tuesday. WGCU’s Amy Tardif has more.
