FGCU Human Trafficking Symposium

Florida Gulf Coast University’s recognition of Human Trafficking Awareness month culminated Wednesday with a symposium on human slavery and it’s pervasiveness in Southwest Florida and throughout the country.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.

H-2A

Increased immigration enforcement and some high profile cases involving human trafficking are causing some growers in Florida to rethink how to get their crops harvested.  An alternative to hiring farm laborers – who may or may not be properly documented – is the government’s H-2A temporary worker program.  Some farm worker advocates criticize the program.  Others say if it’s done right, everyone benefits.  WGCU’s Valerie Alker has more.

Human Trafficking Task Force

Members
of Florida’s statewide taskforce on human trafficking will meet for the
first time this week in Miami to evaluate the scope of the problem, and
implement a plan to better identify victims and prosecute offenders.

Farm Worker Vigil

Members of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida are holding a vigil in Fort Myers Sunday, in recognition of poor working conditions and slave labor faced by farm workers in Florida. WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Minority Sex Trafficking
