Hundreds
of Florida’s repossessed homes are being bought up in a series of
statewide auctions…one of which is scheduled in Fort Myers on Monday.

Last
year the Bush Administration allotted 541 million dollars for Florida’s
local governments to buy and renovate foreclosed homes.  Local housing
authorities are working to put those homes back on the market.  WGCU’s
John Davis reports.

A Senate subcommittee on Health and Product Safety Issues Associated with Imported Drywall met today/Thursday for the first time. A Cape Coral homeowner dealing with the problems associated with Chinese drywall in his house testified. Matt Laslo reports from Washington.

It’s estimated defective drywall from China was used in the construction of 60 thousand homes in this country – houses that went up just before the building boom went bust. The drywall is said to be making homeowners ill. 36 thousand of the homes are in Florida. And Democratic U.S. Senator Bill Nelson is using part of his Easter Break from Congress to assure affected constituents he’s seeking answers, and remedies. Valerie Alker reports.

Lee
County is going to start buying, fixing up and then re-selling
foreclosed homes to low to moderate income residents.  WGCU’s Mike

month compared to the year before…but once again not as fast as the
price of those homes continued to drop.
