Coal in Florida

Drilling

Environmentalists are criticizing President Barack Obama’s announcement that the administration will consider expanding oil and natural gas exploration off the Atlantic Coast and in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.  WGCU’s Valerie Alker reports.

Gasoline Hybrid Bus

American Petroleum Institute

The
Naples Council on World Affairs heard from the American Petroleum
Institute’s Chief Economist on Tuesday.  It’s the country’s main trade
organization for the oil and natural gas industry.  Doctor John Felmy
spoke about where oil and gas comes from, how it’s used and its role in
the future.  His speech was titled “The Impact of International Forces
and Global Demand for Energy on the United States and Florida.”  He
spoke to WGCU’s Valerie Alker…

Oil Drilling During Special Session?

Governor
Charley Crist may call a special session of the Florida legislature in
October, and there’s speculation a bill that could lead the way to
drilling for oil off Florida’s Gulf coast will be introduced.  That’s
got interests on both sides of the issue scrambling to be heard.

Ethanol Increase?

The Environmental Protection Agency is taking public comments until July 20th on whether to increase the amount of ethanol in gasoline by 50 percent.  Boating advocates say any increase
in ethanol needs thorough testing before going to market.  WGCU’s Valerie Alker has more.
