BP Investments
The BP oil spill in the gulf has led lots of folks to call for boycotting the energy giant. It might be easy to avoid filling up at a BP station, but BP has a long reach. It’s held in many mutual funds – and retirement funds, including the Florida Retirement System Pension Fund. Valerie Alker has more.

Oil Spill Preparation
Southwest Florida has been spared impacts from the massive Deep Water Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico – at least so far. But area agencies and residents are not being complacent. They’re putting together plans for protecting estuaries, beaches and sensitive mangroves – just in case winds and ocean currents bring the oil to this way. WGCU’s Valerie Alker has more.

Gulf Oil Spill Effects on Cuban Wildlife and Environment
Now that oil from the spill is in the Loop Current it could end up in Cuban waters within days. There, it would affect healthy corals and critical habitat for endangered species such as manatees and sea turtles. So the Washington, D.C. based Ocean Foundation is helping its Cuban colleagues prepare. WGCU’s Amy Tardif spoke with the Director of the Ocean Foundation’s Cuba Marine Research & Conservation Program, Dr. David Guggenheim, about this.
