than a private physician’s office in Collier County.  Planned
Parenthood in Naples started providing first trimester abortions
Monday.  Pro-life groups gathered outside for quiet protests and

County Health officials say more parents are taking their kids to get
immunizations earlier than in past years. They say this is good news
because waiting until the last minute could create problems. WGCU’s

Hunger Task Force

The
number of children going hungry in Lee County is growing at an alarming
rate. Sixty-two percent of elementary school kids in the district are
eligible for free or reduced-price lunches. That’s up from 49-percent
in 2006.  WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports on how community leaders are
trying to get food to those who need it.

Swine Flu in Lee County

Spring
Creek Elementary School in Bonita Springs will remain closed all week
after an 11-year-old boy there tested positive for one of the first

Bonita Boys

The
organization Big Brothers and Big Sisters believes spending an hour a
week with a child can have enormous ramifications over time. WGCU’s
Luis Hernandez followed one child in Pueblo Bonito who dreams of one
day playing professional soccer. His big brother may show him the way.

Pediatric Dental Clinic

A
new poll shows 34 percent of American’s are foregoing regular visits to
the dentist.  Many say they can’t afford it.  A new Pediatric Dental
Clinic at Edison State College in Naples is dealing with the
consequences of a lack of access to dental care – rebuilding the smiles
of children, sometimes as young as three years old.  WGCU’s Valerie
Alker reports.
