A Collier County man, on patrol in Afghanistan, has been awarded the nation’s top honor for injuries received during combat.  WGCU’s Valarie Edwards has more.

The National Audubon Society’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and the Panther Island Mitigation Bank in Collier County received international recognition Thursday as wetlands of international importance.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.

The Naples Botanical Garden has won a national award that the folks at the gardens hope will bring more prestige and eventually more guests. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports.

Charlotte Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Mark Asperilla has been
named one of the ten most caring people of 2009 by the non-profit
Caring Institute. The winners of this year’s award were announced by former
Senate Majority leader Robert Dole – Chairman of the Board of the
Caring Institute.  General Colin Powell is also among this year’s
winners.  The Dalai Lamai will be on hand at the awards ceremony next
Tuesday in Los Angeles.  Dr. Asperilla will be attending with his son.
