Halfway There

We’ve reached the midpoint of the 2008 Hurricane Season. Florida’s gone from severe drought conditions to having too much water in some regards. Tropical Storm Fay brought the water level in Lake Okeechobee up further, faster than ever before in recorded history. In response the U-S Army Corps of Engineers has begun a series of so-called low level pulse releases into the Caloosahatchee & St. Lucy Rivers…in order to keep the lake level low enough to not be a threat to the aging Herbert Hoover Dike that surrounds it. Chief of Emergency Management in the Corps’ Jacksonville District - Aaron Stormant – says if he had his way we’d get no more rain from tropical systems this year…though he says he knows that’s highly unlikely.

Manna Christian Residents Still Homeless

Filling the Budget Gap

The Legislative Budget Commission convenes today to authorize the transfer of 672-million-dollars from the state’s savings account to its checking account. As James Call reports the money is needed to fill a gap created by a downturn in tax revenue.
