Vester Marine Field Station

It’s
been 2 years since Florida Gulf Coast University bought an old 12 unit
resort that was once a commercial fish house on Estero Bay in south Lee
County.  Now it’s a Marine and Environmental Science Research Field
Station.  WGCU’s Mike Kiniry took a tour and has this report.

Congressman Connie Mack

U.S.
Representative Connie Mack of Fort Myers says he’s not holding any town
hall meetings while he’s in the district during Congress’ summer
break.  But the Republican lawmaker from Southwest Florida says he’s
already made up his mind on the issue of healthcare overhaul.  WGCU’s

Swine Flu Update

Lee
health officials confirmed the county’s third swine flu death
Wednesday, while officials with the Centers for Disease Control
launched a campaign to educate employers on how to prepare for H1N1
outbreaks in the workplace.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.

Citrus Expo

More
than a thousand people turned out Wednesday for the annual Citrus Expo
at the Lee Civic Center in Fort Myers.  The event draws growers and
people in related industries from across the state, and from other
citrus growing regions around the world.  The theme of this year’s
event was “Using Today’s Innovations toward Future Success”.  WGCU’s
Valerie Alker has more.

Hindu Temple

Followers
of the world’s most ancient religion now have their own place of
worship in Southwest Florida. The Hindu community is celebrating the
completion of its new temple after years of holding services without
one. The official grand opening is Sunday. WGCU’s Farah Dosani has the
story.

More Corkscrew Mining Considered
