Congressional District 16

District 16 incumbent Tim Mahoney of Palm Beach Gardens beat Republican Joe Negron in 2006 for the seat left vacant by Congressman Mark Foley…who’s now best known for his inappropriate exchanges with congressional pages. There are 3 Republican candidates vying in the primary election to challenge Mahoney in November. WGCU’s Mike Kiniry has this report.

DOE Proposed Budget Increase

Yesterday the state board of education voted to send their 2009-10 budget to legislators. That request is 850-million dollars more than what the department of education received last year. Lynn Hatter spoke with Florida’s Commissioner of Education to find out why.
