Hurricane Season Preparations

Following
the active 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons area residents turned out in
droves to buy hurricane supplies.  Now, after two uneventful seasons
officials fear complacency may be setting in.  WGCU’s Valerie Alker
reports.

Orioles

After losing the Cincinnati Reds to Arizona and failing to lure the Boston Red Sox from Fort Myers, Sarasota may have staved off the loss of spring training. This means Lee County has to find another team – or sport to fill the soon to be gap at City of Palms Park. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports.

Phil Jones remembers Walter Cronkite

A private funeral service
will be held tomorrow in Manhattan long time CBS News Anchor Walter
Cronkite who died last Friday at the age of 92. Naples Resident  Phil
Jones was a correspondent for CBS News  for 32 years before retiring in
2001. Jones says Walter Cronkite was his friend and mentor at a time
when CBS was arguably the nation’s preeminent broadcast news outlet.

Two Die from Swine Flu in Miami-Dade

Two Sarasota County men died from swine flu last week and Miami-Dade health officials confirmed another swine flu death Monday bringing the state total to 17 deaths so far.  Health officials warn the deaths may not be the last as the virus continues to spread.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.
