Nile Monitor Lizard Q&A
The presence of exotic, voracious Nile Monitor Lizards has been confirmed on Sanibel Island. The omnivorous reptiles can grow up to seven feet long. They have a high reproductive rate, and in South Florida no predators to keep them in check. Biologists say they’re a major threat to small mammals and birds, and that this poses a major problem on Sanibel Island, which is home to Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge – known around the world as a major birding hot spot. Baggage Handling at RSW
The executive director of Southwest Florida International Airport will ask the Lee County Port Authority Wednesday to approve turning over to a private contractor the handling of outbound luggage. The move comes as customer complaints about baggage handling at RSW have mounted – but Director Bob Ball says that’s not a factor in the expected change WGCU’s Valerie Alker has more.

Shred a Thon
Identity theft is a problem striking more people every day. The Federal Trade Commission estimates nearly 18-thousand Floridians had their identities stolen last year. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum wants to educate people on how they can protect themselves. He attended what’s called a Shred-A-Thon outside a Sarasota bank on Tuesday. Alex Newberry was there and has this report.
