Fallen Officers

The
Fort Myers Police Department held a ceremony Monday morning honoring
officers who’ve lost their lives in the line of duty.  WGCU’s John

carriers across the country will be collecting food donations as they
make their deliveries this Saturday.  Local food banks are heavily
dependent on annual “Stamp out Hunger” drive.  WGCU’s Valerie Alker has

Mother’s Day Give Away

There
was a joyful clamor this morning in front of Mark Loren Designs on
McGregor Boulevard in Ft. Myers.  The custom jeweler, who’s worked in
the community for 25 years, is offering a Mother’s Day Special.  He and
his staff have designed a silver heart shaped pendant engraved with the
word “Mom” that he’s giving away for free to anyone who’s been affected
by unemployment or foreclosure.  Loren says the retail value is more
than a hundred dollars – but the pendants can’t be purchased.  WGCU’s
Valerie Alker talked to Loren and mingled with the crowd.

White House Office of Management and Budget recently pulled federal
stimulus funding for beach nourishment projects.  Now beach
preservation activists are lobbying Washington to restore that
support.  WGCU’s John Davis reports.
