Film in Florida Cuts

It's been a lucrative time for South Florida in movie making. But in the coming weeks dramatic cuts to Florida's film subsidies take effect, cutting a 25-million-dollar fund credited with making 2008 a banner year for production work. Leah Fleming has more.

CSI Effect

Many professionals in the field of forensic sciences know all about the CSI effect. It’s the idea that a television show, along with its numerous spin-offs, motivates students to want to learn science. WGCU's Luis Hernandez reports on a recent conference at Florida Gulf Coast University that brought together teachers from all over the country to learn how to use the CSI effect to get kids to love science.

Myanmar Relief

The first in a wave of United Nations relief ‘planes arrived in Myanmar yesterday following last Saturday’s cyclone. Meanwhile in Fort Myers, a Christian based missionary group is doing what it can on the ground and from Southwest Florida to help the victims. WGCU’s Matthew Kay reports

Hunger Relief

This Saturday letter carriers across the country will collect donations of nonperishable food items from homes and deliver them to food banks. Last year the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive collected more than 375 thousand pounds in Lee County alone. This year organizations that help struggling families are counting on the drive to stock food pantries struggling to keep up with increasing demand. WGCU’s Valerie Alker prepared this report.
