Big League Dreams Part 2

For thousands of high school and college baseball players across the country June 9th
couldn’t come soon enough. That’s when the Major League Baseball draft
takes place, when professional teams will give at least 15-hundred
amateur players a chance at the big leagues. In part two of his series
on Baseball Dreams, WGCU’s Luis Hernandez looks at the life of a
baseball scout; the person responsible of finding future baseball
talent.

Big League Dreams

For
thousands of high school and college baseball players the next six
weeks will be tense. The Major League Baseball draft is in June. So
players are doing what they can to make one last impression on the
scouts. Yet the odds are against them. Only two of every ten thousand
players in high school ever get the chance to play in the big leagues.
10 of every ten thousand players in college get the chance. In this two
part series we’ll see the big league dream from two perspectives. In
part one, WGCU’s Luis Hernandez meets a high school ball player who’s
hoping to get the call from a professional team.

Red Sox Stadium Sales Pitches

In
less than a week Lee County officials will choose the final location,
and an alternate, of the new Boston Red Sox spring training stadium.
Earlier today/ on Thursday the Chamber of Southwest Florida gave folks
from the final four sites one last chance to show why theirs is best.
WGCU’s Luis Hernandez reports on the groups’ last sales pitches.
