Rays Baseball

It’s
easy to tell when spring arrives in Florida when baseball Spring
Training gets underway. And it’s likely that nowhere else is America’s
pastime being appreciated as much as it is in Port Charlotte, where
fans have gone without a major league team for more than seven years. 
Now the American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays are spring training in
their new home in Charlotte County. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez was at their
opening game and has this report.

Boston Red Sox Spring Training Opener

The
Boston Red Sox kicked off Spring Training Wednesday afternoon with an
exhibition game against Boston College at City of Palms Park in Fort
Myers.  WGCU’s Mike Kiniry was there and has this report.

Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training Opener

The
Tampa Bay Rays lost their spring season opener Wednesday against the
Cincinnati Reds 7 to 0.  For Charlotte County having the Rays in place
at the Charlotte Sports Park is a win/win situation.  WGCU’s Valerie
Alker reports.

New Detoxification Center in Lee County

Southwest
Florida Addiction Services, holds a ribbon cutting ceremony  Thursday,
for Lee County’s first new detoxification facility in more than 50

Prince Talal Bin Muhammad

Talal Bin Muhammad of the Jordanian royal family made an exclusive U.S.
visit to Naples Tuesday, to speak about the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict, global terrorism and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. 
The lecture was part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speaker

Trap, Neuter & Release

A veterinary researcher from the University of Florida will speak in
Southwest Florida Wednesday evening about “Feral Cat Trap, Neuter &
Release” programs.  The number of feral cats in the United States is
estimated to be in the tens of millions.  WGCU’s Chelsey Stoner reports.
