Exotic Species
Exotic animals, brought into the state mainly to be sold in the pet trade, are becoming a huge problem for Florida. Irresponsible pet owners release unwanted pets into the wild.
Now Two Florida lawmakers are proposing legislation to regulate the sale of certain exotic species in Florida. The bill would require the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission to draft a list of exotic reptiles the state currently regulates. Anyone wishing to acquire one of those species would have to obtain a permit.
As Carol Pratt reports, these released animals are displacing and killing native species.
