Lee County Supervisor of Elections Sharon Harrington
Southwest Floridians who want to vote the January 29th primary election only have until 5 pm on New Year’s Eve to register. WGCU’s Mike Kiniry spoke to Lee County Supervisor of Elections – Sharon Harrington – who says when the state legislature voted to move Florida’s presidential primary from March to the end of January, the move also pushed forward the voter registration deadline.

Farm to Fuel Program
Earlier this year the Florida Legislature established what’s called the “Farm to Fuel Program” with the goal of producing a quarter of the state’s energy needs with locally grown crops by 2025. Heroin
Lee County narcotics detectives recently busted an alleged heroin distribution operation at a house in North Fort Myers. They arrested two women and one man, seized several thousand dollars worth of heroin - and more than 70-thousand dollars in cash. And there were 7 kids at the house ranging from 8 months to 12 years old. Narcotics detectives say it's one of the biggest heroin busts in the county in more than a year. WGCU's Mike Kiniry has this look at the broader heroin trends here in Southwest Florida.

Willow Lake Update
The future of Willow Lake on Pine Island in Lee County is taking another turn. The South Florida Water Management District is now going after the landowner for damaging a six acre section of protected wetland. That’s not what the agency said back in October though. So the property owner says the district needs to explain its change of heart. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez has this report.
