New Pediatric Dental Clinic in Collier County

The End of the Old Sanibel Drawbridge

The old Sanibel Causeway drawbridge is gone forever. Transportation officials blew it up early Tuesday. WGCU’s Luis Hernandez was there and has this report.

Property Tax Amendment on Ballot

A simpler, leaner property tax cutting plan will go before voters in January. The Florida House passed the plan last night by a 97 to 18 margin.
But as James Call reports, many House members say they are upset about the amount of the cut and the process that eventually produced it.

Wildland Fire Conference

Firefighters, forestry officials, emergency managers and landowners are gathering in Ocala starting this morning for the 5th Florida Wildland Fire Conference. The 3-day event includes training sessions and demonstrations of new firefighting technologies. Wildfire Mitigation Specialist with the Florida Division of Forestry - Jerry LaCavera – told WGCU's Mike Kiniry that firefighters here in the Sunshine State face similar challenges to what firefighters are up against in southern California.

War Protest in Orlando

Hundreds of people gathered in Orlando’s Lake Eola Park this weekend to demand an end to the Iraq war. Orlando was one of eleven cities around the country that held coordinated peace rallies on Saturday. Judith Smelser was there and has this report.
