Jatropha

Southwest Florida has become a hotbed of interest in Jatropha; a plant that some believe could become the next big biodiesel fuel source. But environmental advocacy groups don’t want Jatropha farms in Florida. WGCU’s John Davis has more.

Food Stamps

Nearly one in ten Floridians is now on food stamps. In the last two years the number has increased by more than 40 percent - with 1.7 million families and individuals now getting assistance. According to federal officials the increase is the largest in the nation. And Lee County has the dubious distinction of leading the state. WGCU’s Valerie Alker talked to people signing up for food stamps and has this report.

New College

Say the words ‘New College of Florida’ and you’re likely to get one of two responses: either “Florida’s got a new college?” or “isn’t that where all the smart kids go to school?” Well New College in Sarasota is NOT new...but it IS filled with extremely bright students.
