The country’s largest citrus grower organization is closer to appealing an International Trade Commission decision this week that, it says, will severely harm domestic orange juice processors.

Florida Citrus Mutual filed a summons with the U.S. Court of International Trade to appeal the Commission’s recent move to revoke an anti-dumping order against Brazilian orange juice processors.

Dumping is the selling of a product at less than the cost of production. Andrew Meadows of Florida Citrus Mutual says Brazil’s orange juice processors are doing just that. He says the practice has consequences for growers here.

“It’s against our international trade law and it can really hurt domestic producers of products like orange juice, put them out of business,” said Meadows.

Since the International Trade Commission revoked the anti-dumping order, orange juice futures prices have declined 40 percent.

Meadows says Florida Citrus Mutual will file a petition if necessary.

The Citrus Mutual will host its annual meeting in Estero June 13th through the 16th.
