The report from the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) estimated the life expectancy of each county in the United States for 2009.
Men in Collier County also live the longest in the state – an average of 80.7 years.
Collier County Health Department spokesperson Deb Millsap says the report tells us that many people in the county are making good personal choices.
“When we look at statistics, we see that Collier County has less smokers than state average. We see that cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and obesity rates are lower than average. So that means people are trying to practice good health care habits that all contribute to life expectancy,” said Millsap.
Lee, Charlotte, and Sarasota Counties also showed longevity in their populations. Their average life expectancies were close behind that of Colliers’.
However, women in Hendry County live an average of 77.7 years – shorter than women in all but two Florida counties.
