Schwartz says cloth offers a significant savings over disposables, which can cost up to $200 per month.
“If we could get them to use cloth, we could save them money by the first month. It costs us about $150 to put together a kit for a family and that kit will last them from when their child is about three months old all the way through potty training,” she said.
Cloth my Heart is now accepting applications from families as well as donations from the community.. Schwartz says she hopes the organization will be able to help at least 100 low-income families by the end of the year.
“We really believe in it and we just want to serve the community in the best way that we can,” said Schwartz.
In addition to diapers, Cloth My Heart also offers free Cloth Diaper 101 classes in Lee and Collier counties. The one-hour class teaches parents how to use and care for cloth diapers. For more information, email

Local Non-profit Aims to Save Families Money with Cloth Diapers
Written by Jenny Williamson
A new Southwest Florida non-profit is working to help low-income families save money by giving out cloth diapers and reusable supplies.
Until recently, local families who needed help with the cost of diapers could only get disposables. That’s why Britt Schwartz founded Cloth My Heart; she realized there were no local resources offering cloth diapers.
