Phoenix Block

The Naples-based rock band Phoenix Block is donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of their album Chemtrails during the month of May to skin cancer research in honor of Melanoma/Skin Cancer Awareness Month. We’re joined by several of its members, including lead singer Andrew Jaffe, M.D. Jaffe’s not only the lead singer of a rock band, but a practicing Dermatologist in Naples. Phoenix Block describes itself as a combination of the melodic influences of the 60s and 70s with the punk influenced, rhythm-driven sound of the 80s…all over a canvas of modern electronica.

We’ll talk with this relatively new band about their musical inspirations, their new album and possibly their hopes for a record deal.

Staying Active, Fit & Well

Join us for a discussion about staying fit: both through kayaking on Southwest Florida’s many incredible waterways…and by participating in programs offered by two area senior centers. We’ll talk kayaking with Betsy Clayton, the Blueways & Waterways Coordinator with Lee County Parks & Recreation, Mike Devlin, president of the Paradise Coast Paddlers Club, and Don McCumber, an active member of three area paddling clubs. And we’ll explore the ever-growing demand for dynamic programming at area senior centers. Kitty Sayers, supervisor of the Lake Kennedy Senior Center, and Pat Ambrose, supervisor at the Tony Rotino Senior Center will share their experiences in keeping up with the new age of seniors.

"Working - A Musical" & Remembering Robert Rauschenberg

Asolo Rep in Sarasota re-imagines a production of Working A Musical featuring new music by Broadway’s rising star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who earned 13 Tony nominations this week for his hit In the Heights. It will be directed by Gordon Greenberg. Both men join us. This well-loved musical is based on the writings of Studs Terkel. Working explores the gamut of people’s emotions about their jobs.

We’ll also remember artist Robert Rauschenberg who died this week at age 82.
