The Naples-based rock band Phoenix Block is donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of their album Chemtrails during the month of May to skin cancer research in honor of Melanoma/Skin Cancer Awareness Month. We’re joined by several of its members, including lead singer Andrew Jaffe, M.D. Jaffe’s not only the lead singer of a rock band, but a practicing Dermatologist in Naples. Phoenix Block describes itself as a combination of the melodic influences of the 60s and 70s with the punk influenced, rhythm-driven sound of the 80s…all over a canvas of modern electronica.We’ll talk with this relatively new band about their musical inspirations, their new album and possibly their hopes for a record deal.Click on the box below to see the music video for their song My One.

Asolo Rep in Sarasota re-imagines a production of Working A Musical featuring new music by Broadway’s rising star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who earned 13 Tony nominations this week for his hit In the Heights. It will be directed by Gordon Greenberg. Both men join us. This well-loved musical is based on the writings of Studs Terkel. Working explores the gamut of people’s emotions about their jobs.We’ll also remember artist Robert Rauschenberg who died this week at age 82.

The latest show at Florida Repertory Theatre, "Visiting Mr. Green" takes one unlikey relationship and forces the audience to look inward at its pride and prejudices. We'll meet actor David Howard, who plays Mr. Green and director Howard Millman. You've seen Howard on film in Meet Joe Black, Moonstruck and Crimes and Misdeamnors and most recently at Florida Rep playing Morrie Schwartz in Tuesdays with Morrie. Director Millman leads the Asolo Repertory Theater in Sarasota.

After a long absence, one can now enjoy Shakespeare again in Southwest Florida...mainly in Naples. And it’s often thanks to one man. We’ll meet John McKerrow who has recently directed "Macbeth" at Lely High School, taught a workshop course on “Twelfth Night", directed "The Tempest" at The Sugden Theatre, served on the board of the Naples Shakespeare Festival and this weekend directs a staged reading of the classic comedy of identity and attraction – Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” or “What You Will”. The Bard returns to Southwest Florida!

A year-long dance residency project comes to fruition in Immokalee. An Atlanta area dancer/choreographer has been working with at-risk children in low-performing schools in Collier County. He’s interacting with those children AND adults in the modern-day melting pot to create a performance in early May, based on their stories – from poverty, immigration and lack of political clout to resourcefulness and redefinition.

12 poets plus 12 artists equals ArtPoems - artwork inspired by a poem or a poem inspired by an artwork. This transmedia collaboration has been on display around Lee County since mid-March – highlighting the interaction and marriage of the two media – art and poetry. For National Poetry Month we’ll meet three of the poets, hear their poems and then two of the artists with whom they merged and talk about the teamwork, the tribulations and the creations.

Opera Naples was founded in March 2005 by renowned soprano Steffanie Pearce. The professional regional opera company brings in national talent for major roles but also casts local singing actors to fill out the ensemble. James Ehnes of Bradenton has rapidly established a pre-eminent reputation among concert violinists. Thanks to several recent recordings, the Canadian-born Ehnes has been making quite a splash. His CD featuring the violin concertos of Korngold, Walton and Barber with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra won a 2008 Grammy Award. James Ehnes plays his 1715 Stradivarius and answers your questions.
