Everyone around former Fort Myers resident Jeremey Hunsicker growing up thought he could be the lead singer of Journey…but they never thought he’d almost pull it off. Hunsicker – who now lives in Virginia – recently spent time with the band in San Francisco singing the classics and writing new songs. He was even offered the front man position...though it didn't work out in the end. For the last eight years two Florida Gulf Coast University professors have taken students to the Dominican Republic during spring break. A new photo exhibit highlighting their work with underprivileged children is on display at the Arts for ACT gallery in downtown Fort Myers. The photographer and one of the professors talk about the photography and the education, plus how the art itself has turned into a benefit.

Kick back and have a laugh with Compton & Bennett. Rick Compton and Betsy Bennett have been bringing their brand of musical satire to Southwest Florida audiences for more than a decade. We’ll get to know them and learn more about their current musical revue, called “Sandy Bottoms and Jimmy Buffet”.

Our guest is curator of the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery at Edison College in Fort Myers, Ron Bishop. What was Rauschenberg’s impact on art in the 20th century? A Fort Myers family commemorates the 60th anniversary of Israel with their CD of contemporary/pop songs. It’s co-written and produced by Grammy nominated songwriter and producer Lawrence Dermer and his BMI award winning songwriter wife, Robin. The couple’s sons shared the journey and recorded with them in Jerusalem. The family also makes up the local band Third House Rising. The compositions share a theme of peace, unity and independence. The disc “Israel @ 60: We Are Strong” includes the voices of top Israeli artists as well as choirs of Israeli children and young adults who have immigrated from all over the world. He is an up and coming Latin singer from Venezuela. Carlos Bertonatti started his career by releasing a small solo album online. It sold out and request from fans got him in the studio with a multi platinum producer. His first album, Times are Good, is coming out soon and he’s making some stops in southwest Florida this month. We’ll have Carlos in studio to talk about his life and his music and ask him about his expectations as a Latin singer. Check out his schedule on his MySpace.

Spend time with the Anderson family as they weather the storm in their farm home during the Hurricane of 1926. In 1926, a large hurricane struck Miami and broke the levees of Lake Okeechobee, killing thousands. It continued across Florida and up the west coast, then stopped to do more damage in Englewood. This radio drama was written by Jean Airey of Englewood and presented at the Charlotte County Historical Center by Onstage Theatre.

We’re joined by 3 members of the band Dust Congress out of Denton, Texas. They’re touring the Southeast right now…and it’s a homecoming for the band’s founder, Nick Foreman, who grew up in Southwest Florida. They’ll perform for us live in studio. As well as play a few tracks of their new CD called Egg Tooth.

The Naples-based rock band Phoenix Block is donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of their album Chemtrails during the month of May to skin cancer research in honor of Melanoma/Skin Cancer Awareness Month. We’re joined by several of its members, including lead singer Andrew Jaffe, M.D. Jaffe’s not only the lead singer of a rock band, but a practicing Dermatologist in Naples. Phoenix Block describes itself as a combination of the melodic influences of the 60s and 70s with the punk influenced, rhythm-driven sound of the 80s…all over a canvas of modern electronica.We’ll talk with this relatively new band about their musical inspirations, their new album and possibly their hopes for a record deal.Click on the box below to see the music video for their song My One.

Asolo Rep in Sarasota re-imagines a production of Working A Musical featuring new music by Broadway’s rising star, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who earned 13 Tony nominations this week for his hit In the Heights. It will be directed by Gordon Greenberg. Both men join us. This well-loved musical is based on the writings of Studs Terkel. Working explores the gamut of people’s emotions about their jobs.We’ll also remember artist Robert Rauschenberg who died this week at age 82.
