Railroad Vine
(Ipomoea pescaprae)
Type:Vine
Size: up to 100 feet long
Zone: 9b, 10a, 10b, 11
Habitat:Prefers full sun and dry soil. Also prefers slightly alkaline soil, but will tolerate a wide range of pH.
Description:This vine has pretty, funnel like flowers that are pink to lavender and bloom year round. Interestingly, these flowers only open one at a time, and only in the morning. Its fruit is a brown pod. Railroad Vine can also be used as a groundcover. It is highly resistant to salt, wind and sandy soils, so it's ideal for coastal groundcover and it helps prevent beach erosion.
