Seagrape
(Coccoloba uvifera)

Type:  Medium sized tree or shrub

Size: up to 30 feet tall

Zone: 8b,9a,9b,10a,10b

Habitat:  Great choice for coastal plantings, because it is salt tolerant and will grow in sandy soils. Needs full sun to partial shade, will do better with moist, acidic soil. Is also somewhat cold tolerant.

Description:
This plant has a look all its own! Lanky and sprawling, seagrape stands out with its large, green leaves that are sometimes complemented by shades of deep red. A sturdy choice for residents concerned about wind damage from large storms or hurricanes. If left untrimmed, this plant will grow into a sprawling tree. Keep it trimmed if you'd like a unique, salt tolerant hedge.
